The world’s population is ageing and Europe’s population will be the world’s oldest. By 2030, a quarter of the continent’s population will be older than 65, a doubling compared to today. The population of working age will thus decrease.

There are several possible developments:

  • An increase in the number of women in the workforce
  • Social protection systems will come under heavy pressure
  • There could be a large number of poor older persons
